Why Obama is Destined to Fail

There was a great sense of hope when Obama was elected. He seemed to promote this idea of harmony and humanity with every speech. The line was clearly divided: he was either the second coming of Christ or the Antichrist. Everyone fell on one side or another.

Except me, of course. I was just grateful that Sarah Palin was nowhere near the White House. Other than that, my expectations were reasonably low.

The threat to the Obama administration lies not in the hands of frenzied, angry Tea Partiers that are failing to recover from the cognitive shock associated with those that do not seem to get that the democratic process means that sometimes your guy loses. No, the threat lies with his supporters, and the very, very unrealistic expectations they have placed on his shoulders.

The Obama administration has barely cleared half a term and it has been declared a failure. Those who have been against him from day one are not included in this equation, because there is no point. The fact that he woke up this morning upset them. Obama's biggest problems are in the camp of his supporters, who for some strange reason mistook him for Jesus. And it's not just the fringes, either. It's rational, intelligent people who honestly thought that the election of this human being would signal some magnanimous change that would resonate through the galaxy. He was supposed to be Luke Skywalker, because clearly his speeches were an indication that the force was with him.

The sick sad truth of it is that if Obama makes any influence on the economy, some other president will be taking credit for it because it will take more than two terms to address. Look at this on a personal level: if the average person cannot get out of debt in two years, how can you expect the same of a country? Any laws that you hoped would come into play are determined by your Congress, Obama can only suggest them and sign things after someone else has made the decision. This is third-grade level government. Yes, he can make a decision right off the bat about Don't Ask Don't Tell, that's about it. But if you really believed that this politician was going to do that before his third year, the "safest" year, I will keep you in my prayers. If he seriously pursues it at all before his second term, I will be surprised. If anything, it looks like the courts will be making this decision so that no one can claim credit for it before any elections.

Let's come back to earth, people. No, you are not going to get a pink pony or a castle. No, world peace will not be achieved. No, repairing the economy is not an overnight process. No, Obama is not Santa Claus.

And yes, if you continue to keep these unrealistic expectations and you vote based on this lack of realism, then the change you believed in will never even get off the ground.

Graham: 'Most Americans' Think Birthright Citizenship Odd, Are Offended ...

Who are these Americans they are talking about, and why do they represent the rest of us? At what point do the Republicans with some sense grow a pair and stand up to this? Tell the loud ones that you reject whatever fear-based racist cause they dream up. This is just madness.

A Blessing in Disguise

Senator-Elect Scott Brown (R)'s victory might seem to be a huge blow to the Democratic party, but it could be a huge win for the American people. The Democratic leadership was given a great gift by the American people, and they have failed to spend their political capital, choosing instead to try to cater to those in power who confuse steering this ship of state with playing a high school football game. Perhaps this sign of vulnerability will be the wake-up call needed to get done what they were put in office to do. It's time to stop trying to curry-favor to those who are still smarting from the 2008 election and act like you have a pair. If you choose to continue to waffle, then you deserve to lose your seats.

Sen.-elect Brown, I congratulate you and hope that your service benefits the citizens of Massachusetts as well as the citizens of the United States. To wish you ill because of your party would be childish and--since you will play a hand in how this country is shaped--is fundamentally un-American. This is not a high school football team where if one side loses, the other side is unaffected. This is the United States of America, and if this ship sinks, everyone goes down with it.

A Thought on the Reid Situation

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is under fire for having called President Obama a negro. I've been going over Reid's history as best as possible online and the action seems inconsistent to his past behavior. I'm not trying to defend him just because he's a Democrat and I acknowledge that I don't know him personally, but it just struck me as strange.

The timing of this situation caught my attention as well. I'm starting to wonder if the Democrats allowed this to happen to distract the Republicans while the health care bill is being done. The Senate passed the bill today and it went virtually unnoticed. That is the only hypothesis that seems to make sense. Reid didn't have much of a chance getting re-elected anyway so he would make an ideal person to choose to be the distracting scandal. Reid could resign and do the apology circuit. Why wouldn't he agree, especially since he could be appointed for a position in the Obama administration and it could be sold to the press as an "exercise in forgiveness."
